One-of-a-kind furniture and serving pieces for Sonoma County homes. Each piece begins as a raw slab. The wood leads — then the right metal finishes the conversation.

Walnut River
Coffee Table

Live edge · Copper joinery dowels · Claro walnut base

A single slab of Claro walnut, hand-selected for its live edge and dramatic grain figure. Where the slab had natural voids, black epoxy stabilizes and preserves rather than decorates. The base is hand-built Claro walnut with angled legs — copper dowels set into the joinery — chosen as much for the warmth they bring against dark Claro walnut as for the structure they provide. Every table is one-of-a-kind — this one is sold.

Wood, steel,
and craft

The knife block shows how metal choices shape a piece. Heat-colored mild steel develops a deep blue-purple iridescence that pulls the warmth out of the oak grain. The brushed steel magnet buttons are a different finish entirely — cooler, more precise. The contrast between them is deliberate. Every SimHawk piece pairs wood with a specific metal chosen for what it does to that wood.

How It Works

From slab to heirloom

01

Consult

We talk through your space, your vision, and your timeline. I'll share slabs and materials from my current inventory, or source specifically for your project.

02

Design

I model every custom piece in Shapr3D before touching wood. You see a 3D render and approve dimensions, proportions, and material combinations before I begin.

03

Build

Hand-cut joinery, CNC-precision shaping, TIG-welded steel. Every metal element — bolt, bracket, hardware — is chosen for how it reads against that specific piece of wood. Where voids exist, epoxy stabilizes rather than decorates. Every component is made in my Santa Rosa shop — no outsourcing.

04

Deliver

White-glove delivery and placement throughout Sonoma, Marin, and Napa counties. Your piece arrives ready to live in your home for generations.

SimHawk Wood & Steel is a one-person custom furniture studio based in Santa Rosa, California. Every piece — from a charcuterie board to a dining table — is designed, built, and finished by me in my shop.

My background is in mechanical fabrication: TIG welding, CNC machining, and precision metalwork. When I started working with wood, I brought that same exactness to the craft. The result is furniture that's structurally honest — the joinery is visible, the materials are real, and nothing is hidden.

I work primarily with Claro walnut, figured oak, maple, and purpleheart, paired with metals chosen for how they interact with that specific wood — copper dowels against dark Claro walnut, heat-colored steel beside warm oak, brushed steel as a cooler counterpoint. Epoxy, where the wood needs it, stabilizes rather than decorates. The wood always leads; the metal finishes the thought.
